Information Society Progress Update in EU Enlargement Countries


According to a recently published report, the electronic communications market continues to develop steadily in the nine enlargement countries of the EU (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Iceland, Kosovo, Montenegro, FYROM, Serbia and Turkey) with an annual growth of 5.7% in 2011 reaching a total value of €16.07 billion. Internet services registered the strongest growth rate (23.2%), followed by cable TV services (9.5%) and mobile communications (7.6%). This report also indicates that the degree of alignment of national electronic communications and information society legislation with EU directives varies greatly among the nine countries.
