European Parliament Adopts European Cloud Initiative


The European Parliament recently adopted a resolution on the European Commission’s ‘European Cloud Initiative’, which was presented on 16 February, 2017. The resolution highlighted the strategic value of cloud computing and argued that many other tech-focused countries, such as USA and China, have invested heavily in the area. To avoid Europe falling behind, the ‘European Cloud Initiative’ will create a virtual environment where scientists and professionals from all across Europe will be able to store, share, manage, analyse, and reuse their research data across disciplines and borders. This is part of the Commission’s larger Digital Single Market initiative to reduce fragmentation across the EU.
