Women in Spotlight in Digital4Her Conference

European CommissionOn 19 June, CEPIS attended Digital4Her, a conference organised by the European Commission, which focussed exclusively on topics around women in digital. The event was hosted by the Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel. It gathered stakeholders from all sectors, to discuss issues such as the gender gap in ICT and STEM, stereotypes in audio-visual media, promoting and supporting women entrepreneurs, digital skills initiatives for women, and removing gender bias in society.

The Digital4Her conference saw two particularly noteworthy events. First, representatives from several European tech firms signed a declaration expressing the intent to achieve gender balance and providing equal opportunities in their companies. Among other things, the signatories committed to promote a female-friendly company culture, identify and train potential female leaders and facilitate their promotion possibilities in their companies.

Second, Commissioner Gabriel announced the European Network for Women in Digital the aim of which is to coordinate existing initiatives, pool expertise, and thus promote greater participation of girls and women in digital studies and careers across the EU.

During the closing ceremony of the event, a series of prizes was awarded to 10 tech startups, led by innovative women.
