Six EU member states top digital performance ranking

European Commission

Six EU member states top a new digital performance ranking released by the European Commission, with Denmark in the lead, followed by the Republic of Korea and Finland. The four other EU Member States among the top ten are the Netherlands, the UK, Sweden and Luxembourg.

The results come from the ‘International Digital Economy and Society Index’ (I-DESI) that compares the digital performance of EU countries with those of 17 non-EU countries in 5 areas: connectivity, human capital and digital skills, use of the internet by citizens integration of technology and digital public services.

Looking at the evolution during 2013 to 2016, the index shows that all EU members states have been progressing in the adoption and use of digital technologies. However, on a regional level, the EU has not managed to close the gap with the US, South Korea and Japan.
