EIF holds debate on Europe’s chances in the race for global AI leadership

On 19 February, the European Internet Forum (EIF) hosted an exchange of views on how Europe can compete with China and the US in the global race for artificial intelligence (AI) leadership. The main points expressed in the meeting were that the chief disadvantage for the EU is its member states’ lack of cooperation and coordination, as well as insufficient investment. On the positive side, Europe’s competitive advantage in AI is its serious approach to ethics. As Carlos Fernandes of Deutsche Telekom stated, “Transparency is required in this field. Transparency leads to trust, and trust leads to progress”.
