European Commission releases DESI 2019 report

On 11 June, the European Commission published the results of the 2019 Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), which monitors Europe's overall digital performance and the progress of EU member states’ digital competitiveness. The Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands are still in the lead in terms of the overall DESI score. The report shows that all EU countries’ performance has improved during the past year, but several countries still have great room for improvement. The report found that targeted investment and clear policies boost performance significantly.

DESI is a composite index that summarises indicators in seven areas, such as connectivity, human capital/digital skills, use of internet, integration of digital technology, research and innovation, and others.

Individual country reports are also available. Read the full press release on the Commission’s website.
