European Council adopts conclusions on a digitised Europe beyond 2020

The European Council adopted, on 7 June, its conclusions on the ‘Future of a highly digitised Europe beyond 2020: Boosting digital and economic competitiveness across the Union and digital cohesion’.

The Council underlines that addressing the opportunities and challenges related to digitalisation is a ‘most urgent task’ and encourages the Commission to develop long-term action plans and an integrated approach between EU institutions and Member States to Europe’s digital transformation. Some key issues that the conclusions highlight include respecting relevant ethical guidelines, strengthening Europe's cybersecurity capacity and improving digital skills, as well as increasing the number of women in the digital sector.
