Europe’s next digital commissioners announced by President-elect von der Leyen

European Commission President-elect, Ursula von der Leyen, has announced her college of commissioners for the 2019 – 2024 period. Several commissioners will share responsibility for digital affairs. Margrethe Vestager will take on the role of Executive Vice-President for a Europe fit for the digital age. Mariya Gabriel will serve as Commissioner for Innovation and Youth, and Nicholas Schmit will serve as Commissioner for Jobs.

Before they can take office, the Commissioners-designate must face hearings in the European Parliament, followed by a vote on whether to accept the college in its entirety.
