GI Calls for Complete Data Encryption for All

GIIn order to be able to decrypt Internet messages, German Internal Affairs Minister Thomas de Maizière has called for law enforcement agencies to make Internet users’ secret keys accessible, without the users' knowledge. GI’s Working Group on ‘Data Protection and IT Security’ considers that this may threaten data security and communications confidentiality. The risk lies in the fact that a third party could gain access to centrally stored keys. The Working Group therefore calls for the development of efficient encryption software for businesses and individuals and the development of software that evaluates the substantial data that already exists.
